Hi my name is Ian Robinson and i am very proud to be the managing director and designer for Furniture by design ltd.
This is a story of how i got so involved and ended up with so much passion for furniture making.
Since i was a boy at the age of 8 years old i remember my farther making fine carriages and toys made from wood, he would spend hours and hours making these fine individual pieces and then spending hours finishing them for friends and clients.
at the age of 8 my father made me a toy yacht, i was thrilled to bits with it.
This yatch was huge and very detailed even down to scribing the deck to make it look authentic, from floor to top of mast it was 4' in hight
which towered over me, i would carry this yacht a long walk to the river in friday woods where we lived in essex where i would have great fun sailing her.
it was without doubt the most loved toy i had.
i also remember my dad making me an f1 racing car all made from wood i loved that too.
i felt very lucky as a boy to have a gifted dad.
I suppose you would say i took after my dad in many ways, i remember that beautiful smell of wood when he used to craft his toys and other item he would make.
From the age of 8 to now at the age of 43 i still have a great passion for wood and crafting it into something beautiful.
I am even now still learning the art of crafting wood into something wonderful and would never be shallow minded enough to think i know all there is to know about furniture making.
I have to say i feel the luckiest man alive to have the job i love so much, however the best part is seeing our clients face when we hand over there handcrafted furniture.
we hand craft furniture of all kinds to an extremely high standard. We make from scratch to the finished product using the finest materials on the market. We have taken years to source one, a renewable source of wood and two the highest standards possible from a natural material.
Our cabinet makers understand fully the characteristics of what wood will do in your home so therefore make accordingly.
Detail is very important to us. An example of this will be the fact that we make drawer fronts out of the same piece of wood so that the grain flows through all the drawer fronts. As much traditional joinery as possible is incorporated into the furniture from comb joints to dovetail joints, mortise and tenon joints , and trenching joints.
All doors and drawers fit perfectly and have minimal gaps , the finish is of a very high standard inside and outside of all cabinets, these details are what we think make a piece of furniture.
We at Furniture by Design are all very passionate about our furniture designing and crafting. We aim to be the best money can buy. We make furniture in pine, oak, cherry walnut and tulip wood, in actual fact any wood that is suitable for furniture.
Our designs are well thought out, as we all recognize no home is the same. This is why we have a philosophy that says 'IF YOU CAN DRAW IT WE CAN MAKE IT.
There is a reasonable delivery charge for anywhere outside Norfolk. This will be arranged on processing an order. We are a national company who have customers all over the UK. Also if you feel you do not wish to have the knobs or handles we supply,
you can always source them elsewhere and we will be happy to fit them for you, if you post them to us or bring them in.
